Symbol of Osaka's Arts
Osaka City Central Public Hall
Osaka City Central Public Hall is a historic Neo-Renaissance style building located in Nakanoshima, Kita-ku, Osaka. Construction began in 1913 with donations from Osaka citizen Iwamoto Einosuke and was completed in 1918. Since then, it has hosted operas, concerts, and lectures, contributing to the development of Osaka's culture and arts. Due to aging, preservation and restoration work was carried out from 1999 to completion in 2002. While restoring the original design, seismic reinforcement and barrier-free improvements were implemented. Its beautiful exterior and interior design were recognized, and in December of the same year, it became the first public hall building in western Japan to be designated as a National Important Cultural Property. It continues to be cherished as a center for citizen activities today.
